Des Moines area shoppers looking to get their hands on Black Friday deals at Wal-Mart may have to cross some picket lines.
Wal-Mart workers across the country are planning to stage a walkout on the busiest shopping day of the year. They’re asking for better pay, fair schedules, and affordable health care.
It appears some workers at the store on 73rd Street in Windsor Heights will be joining the strike. According to a press release they will hold an informational Rally around 6:30 p.m. Thursday night at a nearby park, before picketing in front of the store. Black Friday deals are set to begin at the store at 8 p.m.
Wal-Mart executives say people who don’t show up for work could face consequences.
In October, Wal-Mart workers in 12 other states went on strike for similar reasons. So far, 20 stores in 15 states have organized events to be held on Black Friday.
